Podcast Review Day was an online podcast appreciation and sharing day and community that I ran from January 2020 to January 2022. Ultimately, #podrevday is a hashtag, so it can live on. I'm closing down the @podrevday Twitter account but can not and would not delete the #podrevday hashtag.
I adore all of you who genuinely review podcasts. And if you'd like to keep going with the monthly podcast review habit, you're more than welcome to do so. The initial goal of the event was to get listeners into the habit of reviewing podcasts they like listening to on a monthly basis. There are many wonderful memories that I'll have about podrevday. But I can't lie, there were also some less than savory times trying to create an event that wasn't another follow for follow event. Marketing professionals yelling at me for messing up their copy, trolls cursing at me in and our of DMs and knowing that some folks were getting paid to write less than genuine reviews. I was keenly aware of all this and more. I'm not that naive, I was just hopeful that the greater good would prevail. And on some level I think it did. I hope it did. Judging from the reaction to my moving on from the event, I think it did. As of late December 2021, I've shifted my community efforts into more private online groups such as:: 1. My Podcast Editing Plus community of global podcast editors https://podcasteditingplus.substack.com/publish and 2. The Podcraft Community by The Podcast Host, https://podcraft.thepodcasthost.com/home Both of these communities are FREE but they are moderated, which is part of my reason for shifting gears to these spaces. I hope you come join me in one or both of these spaces! And of course, thank you to everyone who has participated genuinely and whole heartedly during podrevday. And also to those of you that will continue on on the 8th of every/some months or in some regular way that's uniquely yours. Poddingly yours, Steph

She's looking for deeper dives that span an entire season. In this conversation I'm trying to match Berry with 3 podcasts that I found and think she'll like.
More about Berry's podcasting background and the 3 podcast matches below but you need to know that this conversation is available in audio AND video format, with some small differences. Have you ever explored your heritage via podcasts? Well, that's what Podcast Listener Mary Chan challenged me to help her do in this episode of Podcast Matchmakers. There are podcast listeners asking for podcast recommendations AND podcasters asking for people to listen to their podcasts BUT they're often not in the same spaces. What if, I thought, we tried to match these two sets of folks. I grew up in the time of the American TV show, The Dating Game and thought it would be fun to use something like this format to match listeners with podcasts/podcasters, with some internet format adjustments.
Melissa Lent was generous enough to be our first listener. But, as with a lot of our PodRevDay community, she's also in podcasting. Here's more about the people and podcasts involved in this episode. Have a listen to her reaction listening to clips from all 3 sci-fi podcasts and hearing from the Creators themselves. This is pure matchability joy! In fact, his recommendations usually turn into long term listens for me. We met in Podcast Brunch Club a few years ago and he's been on one of my other podcasts (Geopats Language) also. And I knew you'd love his recommendations for this lifelong learner theme of CURIOSITY. JJ Ramberg wanted a podcast app that showed her what her friends were listening to but couldn't find one. So her and her brother made one: it's Goodpods. It has group pages much like Facebook but with podcasts! And there is something special coming soon specifically for indie podcasters. We share this info in this episode but as usual, we also dive into one of JJ's favorite podcast episodes on personal growth. And there is a list of 8 podcast episodes on this theme in the show notes.
I've been seeing the reviews for Jar of Rebuke posted month after month during podrevday. I've been curious but so resistant to audio drama. Yes, I love Girl in Space. But that's 1 in the genre that I liked. Not a high number to say I liked audio fiction. But last month Seen and Not Heard penetrated my earbuds and emotional world. I realized that my ambivalence towards audio fiction needed some investigation.
So I loaded up a few episodes of Jar of Rebuke. With my mind open, I pressed play. I think two minutes in to hearing Casper's voice, I stopped what I was doing and headed for the couch. I did something unprecedented: I listened to a podcast withOUT doing anything else. Living outside our passport/home countries can be challenging at times but it can also be really rewarding. Founder of PodRevDay, Steph, wanted to share a list of 8 of her favorite expat podcast episodes with you so you can come along for the ride. In the video she talks about The Bangkok Podcast but the listening list below includes a total of 8 episodes from different expat podcasts globally.
Mental Health is a topic that has been on many of our minds these days. The pandemic has put extra strain on our lives that many of us, myself included, were just not prepared to deal with. So when JD said that his theme for this podcast recommendation was mental health I was quietly and deeply happy.
But these are not your typical mental health podcasts. JD calls them "sneaky" episodes because they are not all from podcasts that you'd think of as being in the category of mental health. |
