Podcast Review Day was an online podcast appreciation and sharing day and community that I ran from January 2020 to January 2022. Ultimately, #podrevday is a hashtag, so it can live on. I'm closing down the @podrevday Twitter account but can not and would not delete the #podrevday hashtag.

I adore all of you who genuinely review podcasts. And if you'd like to keep going with the monthly podcast review habit, you're more than welcome to do so. 

The initial goal of the event was to get listeners into the habit of reviewing podcasts they like listening to on a monthly basis. There are many wonderful memories that I'll have about podrevday. But I can't lie, there were also some less than savory times trying to create an event that wasn't another follow for follow event. Marketing professionals yelling at me for messing up their copy, trolls cursing at me in and our of DMs and knowing that some folks were getting paid to write less than genuine reviews. I was keenly aware of all this and more. I'm not that naive, I was just hopeful that the greater good would prevail. And on some level I think it did. I hope it did. Judging from the reaction to my moving on from the event, I think it did. 

As of late December 2021, I've shifted my community efforts into more private online groups such as::

Both of these communities are FREE but they are moderated, which is part of my reason for shifting gears to these spaces.

Let me tell you the power of #podrevday participants in 3 quick graphs. 
Don't worry, I'll walk you through it. 

The first graph shows us how many people participated in #podrevday each month. In September, 2021, for example, if was 60 people. Remember that number, SIXTY people tweeted reviews. Yes, we have super reviewers like MJ who write more than 1 review but this number counts each person once. 60 people, remember that!

This next 2 graphs show the retweets per month AND the favorites per month (favorites is the heart button in Twitter). 

Remember 60 people tweeted reviews in September's #podrevday. Those 60 people go over 300 retweets and ....

...about 800 tweets favorited in September 2021. SIXTY people!

There are podcast listeners asking for podcast recommendations AND podcasters asking for people to listen to their podcasts BUT they're often not in the same spaces. What if, I thought, we tried to match these two sets of folks. I grew up in the time of the American TV show, The Dating Game and thought it would be fun to use something like this format to match listeners with podcasts/podcasters, with some internet format adjustments.

JJ Ramberg wanted a podcast app that showed her what her friends were listening to but couldn't find one. So her and her brother made one: it's Goodpods. It has group pages much like Facebook but with podcasts! And there is something special coming soon specifically for indie podcasters. We share this info in this episode but as usual, we also dive into one of JJ's favorite podcast episodes on personal growth. Mental Health is a topic that has been on many of our minds these days. The pandemic has put extra strain on our lives that many of us, myself included, were just not prepared to deal with. So when JD said that his theme for this podcast recommendation was mental health I was quietly and deeply happy.

But these are not your typical mental health podcasts. JD calls them "sneaky" episodes because they are not all from podcasts that you'd think of as being in the category of mental health.
