There's no denying it: I'm obsessed with podcasts.
In Spring 2020, my podcasting hobby quickly turned into a business. I'm still searching for a new hobby,
(mostly) NOT related to podcasting: I...
am addicted to coffee as a drink, experience and marketing strategy
am a long term serial expat. I've lived in a number of countries throughout the past 20 years. I've been in Copenhagen, Denmark since Spring 2023.
am from the U.S., born and raised in New York (above picture is from Long Island. I'm on the far left) and Pennsylvania and then I lived in California for about a decade before moving abroad.
studied Industrial Engineering (that's code for Business Engineering, middle manager training basically) at Cal Poly SLO. Class of '01!
taught English language/writing skills to teens/adults for about 20 years (above: me & 2 of my two troublemaking students in Taiwan @2003. No, seriously, they were so much fun!)
Related to podcasting
started my own podcast in 2017 as a decompression activity after leaving (not finishing) a PhD program
transitioned careers from English teaching to podcasting in early 2020
LOVE doing live online events like these (above) Global Podcast Editors panels that I produced and hosted 2x a month in 2021-2023.
am an avid podcast listener and will likely never reveal how many podcasts I'm following at any given time. But it’s a lot.
have written aboutpodcasting quite a bit over the years.
am very passionate about building community globally. One of her first podcast communities was an online event that she created and managed for 2 years called Podcast Review Day.
My podcast origin story When I started my first podcast back in 2017, I did so with a curious mind and a lot of experimentation. My passion and curiosity for podcasting grew and grew because I wanted to understand how to sound better, tell stories better and find the right audience for my projects. So I dove into the many resources available on podcast recording, editing, promotion and growth, connected with the podcasting community, and learned a lot. This all helped me rethink many aspects of my podcast and create more efficiently and intentionally. Little did I realize then that I was building my solopreneur podcasting business but that's how it started.
In Spring 2020 I started editing podcasts for clients and that's when the real magic happened. All of the knowledge, (mistakes), experience, and information I'd been learning were super helpful to my business podcasting clients.
Creatively Complicated was a podcast where Travel WriterSummer Rylander and I hashed out our complex relationship with our respective creative ventures. Her with writing and me with podcasting. The podcast ran for a year.
It's not currently available online but it may be readded soon.
Changing Scripts is a YouTube channel that followed my 3 years of learning Mandarin Chinese while living in China from 2017 to 2020.
